Loading Up On Supplies

It’s official. We will not be taking my Veggie Mobile. There are too many complications at least for the extensiveness of this trip. Several reasons why:

  • Winter driving is not the best conditions for vegetable oil. Even though the Lovecraft Biofuel system is capable of winter conditions, it still poses a small threat to our trip.
  • Collecting oil and filtering will add additional time to the trip
  • My car is already over 300,000 miles and I feel it’s probably not the best idea to put on another 30,000 in 3 months.
  • It is not large enough for all our gear.
  • We cannot sleep in it.
  • Missing a window, and none of my windows roll down
  • The heater is broken
  • The interior lights is not functioning
  • The doors don’t lock
  • It’s not that safe

So, what are we driving? We’re taking our Mom’s 1998 Chevy Suburban. It’s loaded and our transmission just got rebuilt. I stopped by our local Kragen and stocked up on some emergency supplies:

  • Emergency Flares
  • Bosch wiper blades
  • 400 Watt Inverter ( to charge our electronics )
  • Anti-Freeze
  • Fuel injection cleaners
  • Gas treatments
  • Heavy duty jumper cables

All those reasons that you listed are exactly why you should be taking the veggie car. Who wants to watch a movie about a couple kids riding around in mom’s car. Just my humble opinion.
